Thus, the traditional hosiery yarns were produced from 17 tpi (22,000 ypp) singles. As 6 ply, that makes a sock! Within living memory, fine department stores carried socks knit from such yarns - no longer. The fabric is firm, smooth, lustrous, thin, breathable, durable, and a royal pain in the ass to knit - much better done on a knitting frame. Note that even Weldon's does not call for hosiery yarn.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05150805906414546377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21068675.post-76534070229644770452014-10-02T07:45:19.404-07:002014-10-02T07:45:19.404-07:00Hey, that's pretty cool. I'm assuming you're just eyeballing it. Am I missing something?

BTW, keep in mind that the final purpose of your yarn matters. For someone who wants to knit, say, contemporary-looking sweaters for indoor wear, spinning at spin count isn't a particularly useful skill. Why cultivate it? Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
