I think you ...Cool! (Followed through from Rav...)

I think you may have explained the drive system intended for my vintage wheel that has been a bear to spin with since the day I got it! It's an old flax wheel, with a crazy-high ratio, and it's what I learned to spin on, so I tend to spin fine and fast now, and frequently outspin my Schacht, even on it's fastest settings.

The antique wheel is double-grooved, and does not like a crossed drive band; it pops off frequently. It will spin in one direction, and that direction only: counterclockwise. And the whorl and bobbin are an interesting distance apart in the MOA.

I'll have to rig it up as you descibe - I can't believe I never heard of this before!historicstitcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17370128908373990078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21068675.post-48843354157331311282011-08-11T09:46:50.694-07:002011-08-11T09:46:50.694-07:00A larger wheel?

The other side of this is that the Traddy with it 24" wheel is a cheap, robust, small, and handy platform for which parts are easily available.

The smaller wheel does not deliver as much torque, so drag at the flier is an issue and I end up using ball bearings. But, the ball bearings cost me a couple of dollars each. It is not worth spending a lot of money on a bigger wheel to save $4 on bearings.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05150805906414546377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21068675.post-20720478411685136162011-07-06T00:11:58.196-07:002011-07-06T00:11:58.196-07:00I was thinking - couldn't you get better ratio...I was thinking - couldn't you get better ration putting in a larger wheel too?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21068675.post-42986272777480593312011-05-26T10:14:57.927-07:002011-05-26T10:14:57.927-07:00differential rotation speed (DRS)
