Goldfishy

Costco had several styles of men's shirts made by The New Ivy Brand:
All had prominent packaging stating they were hand spun and hand woven.

I trust Costco to require accurate labeling.  Unless you want to accuse Costco as an accessory to fraud,  accept the above, as labeled.

I would not have accepted the material as hand spun without having tried to buy such a spinning "frame", and run into the export tariff.  And, remember that Shetland Harris Tweed is also hand woven.

The picture you provided doesn't prove anything, other than that the garment is 100% cotton (which wasn't in dispute). There is nothing on the pictured label to state that the fabric is handspun/hand woven. Nothing. You know this, so I don't know why you bothered including it. I do appreciate the presence of the ruler though - adds a certain science-y je ne sais quoi to your ridiculous photo.

  2. PS: There's no such thing as Shetland Harris Tweed. Harris Tweed is a brand that originated in the Outer Hebrides and in the past, required the use of Outer Hebrides wool exclusively in any product carrying the label (that has since changed, as I'm sure you know). The Shetland Islands are a completely different group with no connection to Harris Tweed. Hence, the term "Shetland Harris Tweed" makes no sense at all, on numerous levels.

If you're going to insist on positioning yourself as a textile expert, you're really going to have to do a better job of getting these little details right.

  3. Nope. Doesn't say handspun or handwoven. It says it's Indian cotton from Madras (Chennai). Unless you can show the original packaging, with the shirt inside it, I'm not buying your story. Proof, or it isn't true. Isn't that what your scientific method teaches you? And what has Harris Tweed got to do with anything? We're talking about Indian cotton here, not Scottish wool. Oh, and while you're at it, do stop with the frivolous legal mambo jumbo threats. You clearly have no law degree or you would know better.

Your photo doesn't actually support your claim that the item is hand spun and hand woven. Handspun and handwoven Indian cotton is, of course, made - though it is usually referred to by its Indian name. Does Costco sell shirts made from it? I have no idea and you haven't proved it through your posts yet.

HARRIS TWEED is never referred to as Shetland Harris Tweed. Shetland Sheep breed wool may be used I suppose but it is not specifically referred to. Check out The HARRIS TWEED Authority website for more details.
