The flexible plastic risers used for irragation systems make good needle cases for steel needles as they are ligher and can be screwed together to accomodate any length of needls. Again the screw caps are protected with wads of waste yarn.

Aaron, I am also a traditional knitter, I'd love to correspond with you and talk gansey knitting. I'm working my current project on 16" needles size 00, 10 sts per inch. I make all my own needles and am interested in making a sheath and working with it -
